Breckin's Room Reveal

About this time last year, we made the transition from crib to twin bed for Breckin. It was at this time I started decorating his big boy room. It has been a long process...just adding things here and there. I had actually planned on painting it, but never got around to that. It's a little bittersweet to share this post now because now that Hubby and I have found out our news, we are planning on bunking the two boys in one room. I plan on revealing Tanner's room as well, since his made big changes too. Here is a picture of the moodboard I had created for Breckin's room:

And here's what we've ended up with:

The bed and bedding were Tanner's old sets. The bedding was from Target and I love it so much. I wish they still sold it so I could do matching bunk beds with it when the time comes!

The dresser was given to me by a friend when I was pregnant with Tanner. I actually have two of them! They are actually pretty cute - bamboo detailed. Perfect for a beach-themed room.

The striped rug is also from Target. The dog just follows me around.

This is his desk area...he's a bit too young for schoolwork yet, but I was planning early. He's also big on tools right now, so his tool bench sits right beside. The "B" picture is one I painted myself and the frame was around $3 at Ross when I was pregnant with him. The lamp was from Target a few years ago, again from Tanner's old room. The chair is actually a chair I've had since I was a teenager! It's moved with me time and time again and is now the perfect chair for either one of my boys. The bulletin board is a Goodwill find I covered with fabric and pinned down with nailhead trim {I ran out of trim and need to go grab another pack from Hobby Lobby!} I did this exactly like I did Tanner's in this post.

The shelves were my favorite part to decorate. I found the cool orange mirror at TJ Maxx and knew I had to have it for his room. The coconut monkey is actually a drink holder I got from a vendor while walking on Savannah's River Street. The football piggy bank and striped photo album are from Target.

This is his reading nook. He loves books. This kid will not go to bed without a story {or three}. He enjoys looking at books by himself too. I definitely have no worries about this one when he gets to Kindergarten!

The chair and ottoman were from Marshall's, as well as that small blue bucket. The shelf was a curbside find from my neighbor. The lamp base was from Target, but had a baby blue shade. I actually JUST changed that out because can you believe I found the matching shade to the other lamp at Goodwill the other week for less than $2.00??? It was like it was meant for me to find it. I love crazy finds like that. The "B" monogram was made from a Goodwill frame, some fabric and a wooden "B" from Hobby Lobby. I showed you how I made Tanner's here.

 The lamp was from Target {surprise, surprise}.

The nightstand was another curbside find from my neighbor, not sure why they were getting rid of it! It's a great nightstand.  The "Breckin" market tote was made from an Etsy seller a couple years ago. I used them as their Easter baskets. For now it holds some of his favorite bedtime buddies.

The curtain is definitely Target, but I got it off a selling group on Facebook for moms in my area. The stacked cube shelves I've had since my college days {also from Target}. The brown drawer was from Target and the blue bucket {matches the one in the book nook} and the cube box are from Marshall's. 

And lastly, his toy bin shelf is a folding tier shelf I've had since college too. The baskets are from Marshall's {I have yet to label them - my chalk marker ran out!} They magically fit perfectly across in the shelves when I brought them home.

So overall, what do you think of the space? It will be sad to break most of it down in the coming months as we start putting together the nursery. But my hopes are to plan a great shared room for them and hope they don't kill each other!

Breckin's Room Moodboard

So yesterday you got to see my vision for Tanner's room after we take a lot of his current stuff out and move it over to Breckin's room. I do plan on adding a few new special touches to complete Breckin's room as well. Here's a moodboard to illustrate what direction I'm going with his room:

Of course we won't be getting all of these things brand new, for instance, that dresser is in the moodboard because it is extremely similar to the one we already have in there, with it's bamboo like trim and drawer pulls. The nightstand is to illustrate what I am going to do with an old nightstand we already have - I plan on sanding it, priming it and painting it orange to be a nice accent piece. We do already have a brown area rug as well, and also that toy bin from Target. I try to utilize what we have around the house as much as possible so we can keep a small budget, yet make big changes.

I am so excited to finish putting this room together and can't wait to show you the space!

Tanner's Room Moodboard

You may remember from this post, that we were coming up on the time to move Breckin from a crib to a twin size bed {which I did this past weekend}. Since Tanner is now using our former master bedroom queen-size bed, we are using his old twin bed for Breckin {love saving money like that!}

Jake and I had pulled it out of storage and found that he had {not so smartly} placed a too-heavy item on it while it was in there and it cracked part of the base that holds in the 3 drawers on bottom. Handy hubby was thankfully able to repair it and make it even sturdier.

With the transition of Tanner's old bed going to Breckin's room, we are also using the same super-cute Target bedspread that Tanner was using when the bed was his. Still relatively new and in great condition. Which means, a lot of Tanner's decor {lamps, rug, curtain, etc.} will be moving to Breckin's room once the bed gets repaired and set up in there. And that means, Tanner is going to need some new decor to replace those things! Since I love the surfer/beach theme {will be using it in both boys' rooms} and Tanner's room was already surf-themed, I am going to go with some nautical-inspired decor for the space.

Weekend

Wow - this weekend was a whirlwind! I don't feel like I sat down for even a moment!

On Friday night, we took Tanner to Brick by Brick, a Lego play place. I had won a free Parent's Night Out pass on Facebook which was worth 3 hours of playtime, pizza and fun! And a 3-hour mini-break for Jake and me, though we still had our Breckin with us. We decided to meet up with some friends, Mark and Katherine for dinner. I am happy to say, that I pulled out the burgundy skinnies look I've been eyeing all over the web lately {You can't see them in the pic, but I've got some 6-in high black pumps paired with them}:

I felt totally "Autumn" with this look...I even tried a little burgundy on my lips {to my husband's discontent - he hates dark makeup}.

I also read up a little on Grit & Glamour's post on Whole30. I am so inspired to give it a shot. She is going to start another 30 days in October and I plan on joining in. In spirit {and to get a headstart by slowly cutting out things one by one rather than all at once}, I've decided that as of yesterday, I'm cutting out dairy products. {And girl loves her milk, alright?} So I got myself some almond milk at the store to suffice...it's lactose- and dairy-free and actually much higher in calcium. I'm going to miss yogurt and string cheese, but I think I can survive. I will also be slowly cutting back on red wine, and then on October 1st, will commit to being red wine-free for 30 days {with the exception of the French Quarter Art Walk on October 5th...sorry, just can't do it. That will be my one cheat evening for red wine. I can't wait for a fun evening out with two of my favorite girls, Corey and Chrissy.} I encourage those that are interested to go read her post and consider joining in with me!

OK, back to the weekend. On Saturday, we had a little family breakfast at IHOP...and then headed across the parking to Lowe's to get what we needed to get started on a little project - here's a little sneak-peak:

Can you guess what we are working on? I can't wait for the big reveal soon...but there are still a few big things to tackle with this project.

On Sunday, hubby worked on 'the project' while I started transforming Breckin's nursery into a big boy room...{seriously, as exciting as this is, it totally sucks at the same time to say goodbye to your baby's babyhood}. Here's the room I said goodbye to {granted these are a little old and some things had already been changed throughout the last couple of years, but you get the idea..}:

I would show you what I've done so far, but I'd really love to just have one big fabulous reveal when it's all complete. However, you'll be seeing the moodboard later this week which will give you an idea of the direction it's going in. I still need to paint the walls {and pick out the perfect color!}, put up some pictures/wall art and get some of the furniture in there/moved around. But let me tell you, last night was the first night Breckin slept in his twin-size bed and it was complete agony trying to keep him in it...we went up and down the stairs countless times firmly putting him back in bed {such a mischievous little boy}. However, we were prepared for that.
