Myrtle Beach Bound

We are headed out later today for Myrtle Beach and I'm running around like a mad person getting errands, packing, etc. taken care of. On top of all that, I woke up to my dog having been sick in my kids' room...so that was an extra fun way to start this day!

I'm looking forward to my Turkey Trot 8K on Thanksgiving, I'll let you know how it goes! I'm hoping to do it in under an hour, but I haven't been training much the last couple weeks with the rain and cold {if I'm going to do a 5am run, it's going to be in decent conditions, mmmkay?} ;-)

Have a very happy Thanksgiving! It will officially be DECEMBER when I get back to posting on Monday! WOW - 2014, where did you go?

Weekending / Monday Musings

Happy Thanksgiving week, y'all! Some of your little ones may be off of school this week. Tanner has to go today and tomorrow...and then we're off to Myrtle Beach tomorrow evening! I've been looking forward to this trip - I think all the little cousins will have a blast! As far as kids, we will have 5 total in the house, a 9yo {Tanner}, a 5yo {cousin Chase}, a 4yo {Breckin}, 22mo {cousin Peyton} and a 6mo {Farrah}.

Last night we decorated the Christmas tree! {I showed it to you last week when I had already put all the decorative ornament balls up, but now we've got all the family ornaments up. We did our usual tradition of classic Christmas music, egg nog and cookies. The kids loved it.

Of course we also needed a good yule log going...

Farrah was in on the fun too, of course!

I love this time of year...the house is just so heartwarming when it's decorated for Christmas.

I spent some time {finally} cleaning up my catch-all office. I found the pictures I had colored from Farrah's personalized coloring book {it took me forever to color these!} that I had intended on framing and putting in her nursery. I found some frames in the garage that I bought at Goodwill a while ago and put them together. I love how they turned out...very 70s looking...a lot like her nursery! I will show you the wall collage when it's done.

Jake and I had a nice night out on our 7th anniversary Saturday. We tried a new bar and grill called The Black Sheep in Mount Pleasant which was a really cool little bar. I loved the atmosphere. The food was pretty good too. We then capped the night off at another little bar called My Father's Moustache. I had to get a picture of the drinks we ordered there when I realized it was the same drinks we were drinking when we met 10 years ago!

Jake had also surprised me by booking a 90-minute massage for me earlier that day at Glowspa. It was sooooo nice. He knew I needed to de-stress and I'd been complaining about soreness for a while.

I may or may not be around on the blog this week as we'll be out of town Tuesday eve through Sunday, but I plan on bringing my laptop, so you never know! Regardless, I hope y'all have a VERY happy Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends!

Five on Friday

{one}

Since we are headed out of town Thankgiving week and won't be back until Sunday, I decided to start getting most of my Christmas decor out of the way. I normally do it the day after Thanksgiving and I really want to come home to an already decorated house! I am doing pink and gold this year...that way it won't clash with my already pink and yellow living room. I think it's starting to look great! We will add the family ornaments to the tree as a family one night with hot chocolate and Christmas music. We may wait until we get back from Myrtle Beach to do that.

Tomorrow is Jake's and my 7-year wedding anniversary! We were going to go see Dumb & Dumber To, but his dad will be watching the kids and I feel bad about trying to do dinner AND a movie. His dad works crazy hours all week, so I didn't want to keep him too late. We plan on checking out a local restaurant and bar we haven't been to yet. Can't wait for a long overdue date night with my husband!

Tanner started his new school on Monday and so far so good. He's been getting dropped off from the bus right in front of our house {no more throwing the other two into the car to pick him up!} and then he starts in on his homework and for the most part has been a lot easier about just getting it done. He actually has to go next week on Monday and Tuesday, whereas his former district has the whole week off. Can I say I'm sort of glad because I'll be able to get more done around the house before we head out of town? I'd just be boring him anyway. #mommystruggles

Christmas is fast-approaching and I'm really trying to nail down my plans for the kids' gifts. Farrah is so hard because she mostly has everything she needs from birth, so I'm trying to plan some toys for maybe the next year or two ahead. I got this giraffe in EUC from a friend for $4.00 this week. It's $56 at Amazon! I think she'll love it when she's old enough to ride it. I'm sort of obsessed with giraffes for her...she's got Sophie, and I'm planning on painting some giraffe art for her nursery!

As for the boys, they definitely need new bikes this year and we are also getting them Lego Batman 3 for the Playstation 4 {much to my chagrin, this one is my husband's doing}.

Do you have any great ideas {besides Legos!} for 9yo and 4yo boys, and a 7mo girl?

And that's all she wrote.

It's An Ugg-y Kind Of Day

I woke up to this temperature today while taking my son to the bus stop.

I mean, it's November. Yes, for many states, this temp would not be abnormal for November. But I'm in Charleston, SC! It should still easily be 50s/60s/70s at all times. It's not even Thanksgiving for crying outloud {and if the weather continues this way, I just might!} Thankfully though, the forecast shows the temps gradually rising over the next few days.

However, after getting a good leg day workout in the gym this morning {I swear, I went purely just to warm up my body in this frigid cold!} I decided this is a perfect excuse to wear some cozy Uggs. This is my outfit of the day...simple and neutral. I am also so glad I can finally wear the J.Crew Merino Charley sweaters I bought last year when I was pregnant.

Stay warm - it's cold everywhere!

Monday Musings

First of all...I did not blog at all last week. I greatly apologize for that. Basically beginning on Monday, we started the process to withdraw my 9-year old from his school and we enrolled him in another one in our district. He starts school there today. It was just a lot to do...I had to arrange to meet the principal, his new teachers and tour the school. And then I also had to finish up some things for his campout birthday party that we had on Saturday, so needless to say, blogging was just the last thing I could really get to.

I am feeling good about our decision to switch schools for Tanner. This new school is a bit smaller, so his class size is only 16 students and there are only two 3rd grade classrooms. He has always done better in smaller groups. He had some issues in his class at the other school and it got to the point where we decided it might be better to remove him from the situation and start off with a clean slate. Don't worry - it was nothing super-serious, but just something that we had been trying to work through and it needed to be addressed a different way. Tanner is a sweet, loving and smart boy...but without getting too far into it, he's shown some behavioral issues when it comes to his schooling and we are consistently working through it with him. We hope that this change will bring improvements.

On another note, his birthday party was a great success! I didn't actually have to be there other than to help set up the campsite, supplies and goody bags for the kids. It was a father/kid campout and my husband said it ended up being a really good time with no meltdowns! I don't have a lot of pics as I asked my husband to take some {that means I got 4 pics - ha!} but here are some:

I made these goody bags and a scavenger hunt for them. In the bags I put trail mix, glow bracelets, a fruit rollup and the scavenger hunt. Kept it simple. I figure the hunt would be nice for the kids to do while the men set up their tents, etc.

What did I do Saturday night while the boys were out of the house?

I spent my time with this happy little face and a glass of wine...and Gilmore Girls reruns on Netflix {don't judge me...haha!}

Basically, I am glad last week is over and done with...and I'm eager to see Tanner later and hear about his first day at his new school. I was glad that when we met with his IEP teacher and the kids he'd be in there with, that he knew one of the kids from his school last year that did IEP with him then! I am starting this week with a fresh attitude ready to hit the gym daily, go for practice runs {my Turkey Day 8K is next week!} and just keep caught up on my normal SAHM duties...the ones that don't involve birthday party planning and changing schools all in one week. :-)

Hope y'all had a great weekend and have an even better week!
