Happy Birthday, My Amazing Son

Today is the 8th anniversary of the day I became a mother. I am pausing on normal blog stuff today to wish my first baby a Happy Birthday...

Happy Birthday, Tanner Jacob Smith!

I love this boy with all of my heart...he is so unique, so wonderful, so amazing in so many ways. He is his own person and will make his mark on the world someday. I am grateful for him and the better person he's helped me become.

Three Years Ago Today...

I was blessed with this beautiful boy.

Now he is a "big boy" - turning 3 today.

He is the sweetest, most good-spirited child...loved by all who know him...easy to make friends...great sense of humor...and just lovable in every sense of the word. Happy Birthday to my sweet Breckin.

Happy 3rd Birthday, My Sweet Son

Three years ago today...our little family of three became four. Tanner became a big brother and I officially earned the title of "Mom of All Boys" {still hoping to remedy that some day soon}. This sweet little baby entered this world and his presence has been such a blessing in our lives. Breckin has always been the happiest, bounciest little boy with such a big spirit. He has stolen our hearts, and those of everyone he knows.

Goodbye, 20s // Hello, Best Decade of My Life?

It's official, as of 4:31am this morning, I am a 30-year old. In my 30s. Entering a new decade. Perhaps a new era?

{source}

Everyone tells me that your 30s are actually typically a lot better than your 20s. Some say the best decade of your life will be your 30s. All I can say is that I hope they're right. And I'm entering into this new chapter in my life with that in mind...I want to look at being in my 30s as a positive thing. And know that I'm not old, just wiser. Maybe that's what makes this decade the best - you're still relatively young enough to really enjoy life, are typically in good health...but you know a lot more now than you did in your 20s...your lessons and experiences in your 20s have given you wisdom to take on this new decade with confidence and a good head on your shoulders.

I definitely I feel I learned a lot in my 20s...heck, even in my teens.

I learned who were my true friends, and unfortunately found some that weren't.

I bent over backward, sometimes for the right people, but more often than not, for the wrong.

Some people come into your life as blessings. Others come into your life as lessons.

I spent money carelessly instead of saving. I wish I had started planning for the future earlier.

I didn't always speak my mind in certain situations, only to find myself replaying the moment in my head over and over with regret, thinking about "what I should've said".

I cared much too much about what others thought.

This list could go on and on...and on. But I think you get the idea. Now that I've lived through some bad decisions...and hey, there were some good ones in there too...I like to think that I've got a better grasp on who I am, what I want, and the type of people I want in my life. I think I can speak more freely the thoughts on my mind with conviction...and confidence. I've learned not to waste my time with those that wouldn't spend any of their time on me.

I'm thirty...and I've evolved. I know I'm not done learning and growing, but I think this decade might hopefully have less painful lessons and experiences...and more quality memories with quality people.

I've made some promises to myself for this decade...

1. Keep a good career, move forward in it and save for retirement.
2. To be officially done with Diet Rockstars {and put that money in savings each month, adds up to about $60-75 per month!}
3. Have a good skincare regimen and be OK with spending a fair amount of money on decent products, rather than always buying the cheaper stuff.
4. Keep up the fitness routine and find a way to take it up a notch. {I think barre classes and running have helped with that!}
5. Eat cleaner, for life.
6. Drink 64 oz of water daily - for body and skin.
7. Travel more.
8. Relax a little more and enjoy life.

So, here's to turning 30!

Happy 55th Birthday, Dad

Today's is my dad's 55th birthday.

I wanted to take the time to acknowledge this wonderful man on his day...my dad has always been a hard worker and did a wonderful job providing for our family. My brothers and I never wanted for anything {well, we wanted of course, but NEVER needed}...we had more than enough. We are very lucky to have him for a dad.

I also like to claim that I get much of my spitfire sarcasm and charming wit from him. So those of you that love me, you know who to thank...and those of you that don't, well, then why are you reading my blog? {So you DO love me! tee hee}

We live so far apart now and I know I could be a lot better about keeping in touch. I am so thankful that we got to go visit him in Idaho last week...I wish my sons got to see their Grandpa more. We are certainly going to make a better effort of visiting more often though.

Thank you, Dad, for being the great person you are. I know you've overcome a lot in your life...and to be the person you are today after all of it...shows the might of your integrity and your heart. Thank you for loving me even though I'm quite the pain {but in my defense, as previously mentioned, I got it from you.}

Happy Birthday...I love you!

Fun Fact: Breckin's due date was this day in 2010. The little bugger came early {thank God, because any later he would have been a 10lb-er!} But we gave him my dad's name, David, as a middle name in honor of him.

Breckin's 1st Birthday Party

Yesterday we celebrated Breckin's 1st birthday. (He will actually turn 1 tomorrow.) I can't believe my little boy is already 1. It just does not seem like it can possibly be that long ago that I first held him in my arms. This past year has definitely gone by way too fast...it all seems a blur. Breckin is a wonderfully happy little guy and he has brought such joy to our lives. Here's some pictures and a little video from his party:
