Monday Musings: Saying Goodbye to 2014

2014 is quickly coming to a close...and I must say I am ready! It has been a great year and all, with the addition of our sweet baby girl in May and all of the wonderful blessings that brought to our lives. However, once the Christmas holiday has come and gone, I am just ready for it to be over and return to some sort of normalcy! My mom visited from Tuesday to Saturday last week and I did what I said I wouldn't do, which is drop the ball on working out...we ate, we drank, of course all was merry and full of laughter, but my body is crawling now and I feel like I need a detox. Both Jake and I looked at each other and just wished New Year's Eve was like yesterday so we could be done with it already and get back on track. Here are a few fun pictures from over the holiday:

I've been spending the last couple of days getting our house cleaned and put back together, the new toys put away and all the Christmas decor taken down. I love having a house decorated for Christmas, but man, that tree sure takes up a lot of space in our humbly-sized living room that we were eager to get back after over a month.

Today I made it back to the gym and began the long process of sweating out all the wine, eggnog and calorie-laden goodies...and later this evening I will pick up where I left off with Body Beast.

A little leg day action at the gym this morning

Jake's brother had me in our Christmas gift exchange so he bought me my 20# dumbbells; and Jake got me a French curl bar, some adjustable dumbbells, 35# dumbbells and a weight rack, so I'm ready to rock and roll with it now. It's a lot better to have a lot of options for weight increments. This is what our little home gym is looking like at the moment:

I hope your Christmas was filled with love and laughter! We are hosting NYE this year at our house...looking forward to one last Hurrah! before the crackdown. :-)

{Non-Candy} Stocking Stuffer Ideas For Boys

With two boys under 10, I find myself always wondering what to get them for Christmas...between the two of them, they seemingly have possibly everything they could ever need. Stocking stuffers in particular are a challenge because I try not to give them just a butt-load of candy...but instead some small things that the would like/use. Here are some things they'll find in their stockings this year:

{ Marvel Playing Cards / Candy Cane Chapstick / Lego Minifigures / Magic 8 Ball / Whoopee Cushion }

I don't know about you, but my boys have definitely hit that "everything about farts is funny" stage, so when I randomly happened upon some Whoopee Cushions at the store, I knew they'd make perfect stocking stuffers and would be good for a few laughs.

Breckin, in particular, is really good at card games, especially for just being 4. For the last year, he's been playing War, Uno and Go Fish like a pro. I knew he'd love s pack of his own playing cards with his favorite superheroes on them.

They both are always trying to use my chapstick, so I thought I'd get them each their own...and this candy cane one is perfect for the holidays.

I remember having a Magic 8 Ball as a kid and I loved it. I thought Tanner particularly would get a kick out of this toy.

And of course, Legos are a no-fail gift for my boys. They already have TONS of Legos...so I can at least appease them by giving them minifigures {that's their favorite part about Legos anyway!}

What are some stocking stuffers you'd recommend for boys?

Last Days of Fall

I can't believe in just 3 short days, fall will be over. Luckily, even though it's December, Charleston has been having a pretty nice week with mild temps and I was able to rock a short sleeve blouse more than once. This particular outfit is a great mix of old and new as I found the top {American Rag} at Goodwill! It was in nearly new condition and I just loved the colors and pattern...very boho and very fall...and for $3.99! I swear if you don't scour Goodwill ever, you really should start...there are definitely some diamonds in the rough!

Cozy in Pink

We've had a lot of those days lately where the temps dip into the 30s and you just want to be all bundled up and cozy. These are definitely the days I like to sport my Uggs because they keep my toes oh-so-warm. I love this pink sweater from J. Crew and I kept it simple with a knitted beanie.

I love this beanie...it's my absolute favorite. It is O'Neill brand and I found it when I was visiting my family in Idaho over Christmas seven years ago. I did a search and found a few similar in case you were interested. Check out this one, this one, this one and this one.
