Monday Musings

We have had quite a bit of rain in Charleston lately and I am soooo ready for that to be done for a while. It's hard to entertain children all weekend indoors. This weekend I was actually getting the gift of a "free" day to just have to myself - go shopping, get stuff done, etc...that is otherwise way hard with kiddos in tow. I went to TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Buckle and I found quite a few nice things! I also managed to squeeze in a 1" trim of my hair {I'm trying to grow it a few more inches, but it was in desperate need of some pruning on the ends.}

Saturday night, Jake and I finally got to go out for my birthday. I had wanted to go bowling instead of doing the same old dinner and a movie blah, so we went to The Alley in downtown Charleston. Unfortunately, their wait for a lane was way too long, so we just parked it at the bar for a while, but we did have a really good time. We stopped at a bar near our house on the way home to cap off the night. It was nice to get out, for sure.

Sunday was a typical, lazy Sunday. I did get some of the usual chores done, we went to church, etc...but mostly we just spent the day indoors {damn rain} playing games and watching movies with the kids. Farrah is so good at crawling now {finally!} so we have to keep quite a close watch on her these days. She's getting so talkative too...and still just sweet as ever.

This was Sunday's outfit...white top is from Buckle and colorful one is from TJ Maxx...they layered so well together! I'll have an outfit post soon with all the deets.

I think it's safe to say my go-to style is officially Boho these days. I've always loved that look, but my closet it almost all that now it seems! I feel like it's timeless though...it'll be stuff I can keep and put away for Farrah some day and she'll probably still think it's all fabulous 16 years from now. I love how it's a bit of my SoCal style...and it's so pretty, yet relaxed.

I have to share this awesome railing my husband made for a client's house {a $5M house on Kiawah Island!}...he texted it to me. If you love the nautical, beachy theme, you'll love this:

He's super-talented, right? I love all the work he has done in our home...I hope one day we can build a house and he can put awesome touches like this in it.

This week I'm getting back in the swing of things with workouts. Last week started out good, but a work function and other things got in the way of my original plans later in the week. I've got Barre class on Monday and Wednesday {by the way, got an email about the instructor auditions and they are still deciding who and how many they want to hire, plus are doing a couple make-up auditions, so that's why I hadn't heard anything all week. Still crossing my fingers!} and I'm definitely going to run a good bit this week...I need some cardio in my life.

Have a great week, y'all! xo

A Little Monday Musings For Your Tuesday

It's Tuesday and due to the probability of some ice...my kids are out of school and daycare today {yes, really...that's the South for you.} I am doing a little bit of work from home, but mostly I'm off since it's a bit hard to juggle working from home when you have three kids to watch too. It's not going to be too freezing cold today, so hopefully I can kick my rambunctious boys outside for a little while. {Kids really need to spend more time outdoors!} And other than that, I get a head start on some chores that I would otherwise be spending my weekend doing...so it's nice in that aspect.

So here's something fun...my husband decided to demolish {well, not completely} our bathroom this weekend...without consulting me so I could at least get my makeup and things moved into our guest bathroom. Love ya, Hubby, but seriously? Heads up would have been nice.

The project itself is not random; it is something we've discussed doing for years. We are replacing the floor and removing the "privacy" {that's a stretch} wall between the vanity and toilet to make room for a larger vanity with two sinks. I took the kids to a friend's house for a few hours and when I came back, the little wall was gone, the flooring was all torn out and the toilet was in the bathtub. Gotta love a hardworking man. I'm not sure how long this will all take with him working full-time and all, but I will be sure to show you the finished product when it's ready.

Saturday night was nice, we got out for a little date night...nothing fancy, just dinner and drinks, but uninterrupted conversation with my husband is always nice.

That there is a cucumber jalapeno margarita and it is DELICIOUS. I had two.

I had a rough week last week as far as workouts go...but I got back going with Insanity on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Today it's on the docket as well. I love that I can actually do it whenever I want today, rather than just being held to 4:30am or 7:30pm...neither are my favorite time for working out, which I think has been part of the issue lately...starting back at work has definitely made fitting in workouts a challenge...if I miss my few opportune times to do it, then I just miss it. It's really requiring a lot more mental focus and determination now...spring is very close and beach season is right around the corner.

Speaking of the beach, I did get a cute little bikini with my Valentine's Day giftcard...something to motivate me to get in tip-top shape:

And I received my workout wear from them yesterday too...more motivation for fitness. I just love new workout clothes.

These are perfect for running...and speaking of running, I've got a 5K in just a couple weeks! It's a St. Patty's Day run...doing it with some friends. And the Cooper River Bridge 10K is in just over a month. I need to step up my running game in a few short weeks.

Hope y'all have a wonderful week!

Friday Five

Happy Friday everyone! This week has been quite a whirlwind...an unexpected thing happened and it turned everything upside-down.

{one}

I was offered a contract {to hopefully hire} position at Boeing on Tuesday and they need me to start Monday. I worked for Boeing from 2011-2013 {also as a contractor}. I had randomly found a woman on Facebook in our local mommy exchange group that had commented on someone's post that she recruited for aerospace industry jobs. I messaged her and asked her if she recruited for Boeing and she said she did. I gave her a little background info and my history there and she said she'd keep me in mind if anything ever came up. I really didn't expect much. Plus, I hadn't planned on going back to work, if not at least until the fall when Breckin started Kindergarten. However, if I was going to go back, it would only be for a good company like Boeing. So I just put it out there to see what happened. So when she called me on Tuesday, our conversation went like this:

Recruiter: "So, I don't know how good of a job you did when you were there before, but all I did was mention your name and they told me you didn't even need an interview and get her in here ASAP!" {She said in all her years of recruiting, this has never happened.}

Me: "Whaaaa? Oh my God, really? Wow, OK." {I know, so professional, right?}

Recruiter: "So are you interested and can you start Monday?" {Then more about position...yada yada yada.}

I was floored...and had so many mixed emotions. Leaving Breckin and Farrah way earlier than expected...a crazy new life schedule {work starts at 7am, so I have to get up at 4:30am now just to get my workout in and get kids ready for school/daycare}. I had to quickly get childcare and after school care lined up...I had to find time to go get the required drug test and my badge...it has just been a CRAZY week. But it's a good job, and if I am able to land a permanent position, the benefits are so great for our family. I am sad to say goodbye to my SAHM status...I have loved my schedule with the kids...and of course getting to enjoy all the baby months with Farrah. Now I'm praying I won't miss her big first-time milestones - crawling, walking...I will be a blubbering mess driving to work on Monday. At least I get off work at 3:30pm. This picture will for sure be plastered on my work laptop.

{two}

Breckin, Farrah and I made it out to the beach this week for a stroll and some play. It was so nice this week compared to what it has been. The mornings have still been a tad chilly, but it got up to high 60s most days.

{three}

I got my orders from Ali Express yesterday and they are both perfect! If you remember from this post last week, I told you about the Isabel Marant sweater I scored as well as the J. Crew herringbone vest. Here I am today sporting the sweater:

{four}

Tomorrow is my husband's 37th birthday! We are getting a date night, so we are taking him to get a nice steak and then watch American Sniper. I've heard it's really good. Have you seen it yet?

{five}

I feel like I've got so much on my plate this weekend...starting a new job on Monday after being out of work for 9 months is quite busy. Everyone is going to be on a new schedule, going to new places...even my husband will now have to wake up a little earlier since he will be the one driving the kids to daycare {it's opposite direction of my work, and I go in so early, so the less time they have to be at daycare, the better}. I will be packing a lunch every day for myself, so this is prime time to get back on a good meal prep schedule. On Sundays, I will be prepping veggies, chicken and sweet potatoes, etc. for the week {for both Jake and I to take to work for lunch}. If I don't pack a lunch and snacks at Boeing, it's just bad news. I know this from working there before. Their cafeteria has too many fatty options and then fast food gets expensive and of course is bad as well. I also got contacted by an old California college friend that is in town this week on business and we plan to meet up tomorrow to catch up after 10 or so years!

Have a great weekend!

Monday Musings

It is officially the last full week of summer for us. Tanner goes back to school next Wednesday and next Monday we are meeting his teacher. I'm glad we're all ready to go...school uniforms and supplies are bought. I did not feel like rushing around the last couple of weeks before school, so I took care of that shizz last month. {Can I get a He** Yeah? - Isn't it sad the things us mothers feel like we need frat-bro-like recognition for?}

Anyway, this weekend was pretty good...we started out with the Under The Sun concert on Friday night. It was so good to see some of my favorite 90s bands...Gin Blossoms, Sugar Ray and Smash Mouth. Oh, and this teenage dream come true:

Even though I wasn't close enough to touch him or talk to him...being within less than a football field's length of him, I was all giddy and shit. Hubby thought I was acting like a lovestruck teenager...and I was like, "Well, yeeeah!" I know I'm not the only one who loved me some Mark McGrath. Can I get another He** Yeah?

Saturday made for an early morning since I had to pick up the boys from Nana's by 7:30am. We ended up taking advantage and hitting the play park before it got super-hot out. {We also had it all to ourselves.}

Oh and by the way, Hubby scalped my youngest this weekend without my permission. He does look really cute though. However, the look of innocence is GONE. Nothing there to hide the mischievous look in his eyes, or the constant bumps on his forehead.

We also made some time to hit the pool.

And Breckin learned to ride his new scooter {in the last one he runs back to Daddy to give him a five}:

On Sunday, the boys and I went to the pool again {oh btw, Hubby was on his USCG duty weekend, so that's why he wasn't with us}. We also went to the grocery store {exhilerating, I know}.

During naptime/quiet time that day, in making good on my clean eating plans, I prepped all of my healthy snacks and lunches {the boys' too} for the week {not all is pictured here, I do not plan to live on salad...there will be plenty of chicken and fish}:

And look at this protein-spinach-smoothie-lovin' toddler I'm raising {big bro liked it too} - great way to sneak in some really healthy foods for the little ones:

Have a great week!

Five on Friday

Happy Friday, Loves!

I'm ready for a great weekend, how about you? Here's my Five on Friday:

1. Got some new jammies this week...these are from Victoria's Secret. They were available in-store, which is where I got them, but also available online. Don't forget to use the code FALL13 to save some moo-lah on your order.

Guess this warrants throwing away a few pairs of t-shirts and sweats.

2. Hubby and I are headed to see the Under The Sun concert tonight featuring Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth and a few other 90s bands. Nostalgic, for sure.

3. Thinking of going blonde again - it's been YEARS! I've been a brunette for so long...seeking a little change. It's hard for me though because I have a hard time pulling it off. I can't be like a "yellow" blonde, it has to be more on the ashy-neutral side. I'm thinking something like this would be perfect:
wedding makeup and gorgeous blonde hair
I'll take her face and body while I'm at it. {I kid, I kid.}

4. I'm making a conscious effort to really eat more clean. I saw this article on How Does She? and it is great. Go check it out - but finish reading my post first, please. :-)

5. And I don't really have much else, so I'll leave you with this lovely quote I found on Facebook this week...something us parents should all have realized by now:
