Little Updates

I will freely admit this blog has become a back burner item for me and I hate that. I enjoy it, but lately finding the time, or rather, organizing my time has become harder. It won't always be that way, but I'm still trying to get into a good groove with work/life balance. Here are some quick little updates on various things...

Farrah turned 10 months old on Monday! Still no crawling or pulling up...but she's chubby, healthy and happy so that's just fine by me. Tanner was the same way. She sure has got the roll down though.

The weather has been absolutely awesome this week so far. I'm really loving the daylight in the evenings. We have all been playing outside a lot more. Running in the neighborhood after Farrah goes down for bed is going to be a regular occurrence.

{ Don't worry, the boys are still around too, they are just too busy to be bothered with pictures, so don't mind the overload of Farrah photos. :-) }

I am officially back in the gym. I had been working out at home since early January when Farrah first caught her cough/sinus infection/gunk that just lasted for weeks. I would have felt too guilty taking her to the gym daycare, so unfortunately that meant I didn't get to go. I then started back at Boeing at the end of January, thus making finding the time that much harder. She's feeling much better now and I'm finally not working so much overtime, so I've been going to the gym {which is right by my kids' daycare} right after work about 3:30/4pm before I pick them up and head home. I could have been doing that all along I suppose, but with Farrah having to adjust to being at daycare after being home for 9 months {her whole life}, I wanted to pick her up as soon as possible. Now that I know she is doing well there, I definitely don't feel guilty about sneaking in my "me" time for an hour after work and before heading home with them. I am working hard to stick to a plan right now, so every week I am writing it out:

Jake is ALMOST done with our bathroom. The countertop he made is gorgeous. We still need to fill in the wall where he took off the privacy piece, and we just realized we are going to have to repaint the entire room because I don't have anymore of the color I used in there. I don't mind, I want to go with a lighter gray, and our current shade sort of has a bluish tone to it which I don't love. I need to figure out decor for the wall behind the toilet and we also need to paint the vanity. He's done with the storage towers for the vanity but still needs to paint and install them as well. I cannot wait for the finished product and am so ready to move back in!

Tomorrow I have my first 5K race of the year...which is actually a little late for me...I've usually done a couple by this point. Three kids definitely takes away from your own personal schedule - hehe. It is a St. Patty's Day run in the evening. I've got a few friends joining me, so I'm looking forward to a good time and a post-race beer.

It may rain a little, but overall the temperature will be about 60 which is perfect for running. In a couple of weekends, I have the Cooper River Bridge Run which is a 10K. For those of you not familiar, this is a HUGE race that attracts over 40,000 participants. I did it for the first time a couple of years ago and it was definitely crowded...but I really enjoyed it and hope to make a good time {for me} this year. My goal is to just keep running and not really walk...so pacing myself is key.

That's about it for now...looking forward to getting myself organized with all of this and producing some friggin' content on here for you already! At least spring/summer fashion is coming up... :-)

Five on Friday

Well happy, fabulous Friday! I've certainly been scarce this week! Just a lot going on in work and life and I had no time to sort any thoughts into a decent blog post. But it's Friday...work is winding down and I am ready for the weekend. How about you?

{one}

A sweet friend lent me his NASM study materials for getting a personal training certification, so I'm diving into those and finally going to work toward getting certified! It's only been like a decade or so that I've talked about wanting to be certified. It's something I've felt strongly about for years and for whatever reason, things would get in the way, or I would procrastinate. Pregnancies did not help either, as I'm a little crazy, so mentally I would think that I can't be a personal trainer if I'm not my fittest and still carrying  baby weight. Though I still have a few lbs of baby weight left from Farrah, I'm feeling good about the future and want to get started with this process. Plus, it does make for extra motivation in my workouts.

Speaking of working out, we had such beautiful weather this week, well, until today that is. High 70s pretty much all week and today it's in the 30s...#WTF. BUT, I did take advantage of that nice weather and took a couple of runs this week after work before I picked up the kids {it was my "me" time}. They were short and I didn't feel that great about my time...it's been a while since I've run and getting back to it while it's hot outside is a challenge. I'm working on it...don't mind my rant about the construction during Monday's run...

 {three}

I started a giraffe drawing for Farrah's nursery sometime in December, I believe, and sort of forgot about it. I pulled it out last night and finished it. I still am not 100% happy with it, but think I'm going to go ahead and frame it for her room.

 I then got a little hooked {it's been a while since I've sketched!} and I started playing around...I love drawing hibiscus flowers.

This one is not finished, that was about 10-15 min of work...I really need to keep up on creating art...I get so rusty and I do love it...it was nice and relaxing to just sit there and draw. It is good therapy. Hopefully you'll be seeing more from me.

This weekend is going to be pretty nice - temps in the 60s and sunny. And I am SOOOOO looking forward to daylight savings time on Sunday! I swear I am always in a funk by this time of year - whether it be mood, fitness or just all of the above and once that DST starts back up again, it changes everything. I'm hoping to take the kids to the beach to play and I also need to get some things done around the house...Jake is almost done with our bathroom {can't wait to show you!} Here is the countertop he made himself:

Glad my man is so talented and hardworking...we are able to get a lot of nice things done around the house for way less than what it would cost most people.

{five}

To top off this Five on Friday, I'll leave you with a picture of my happy baby...she's 3 days shy of 10 mos and REALLY trying to crawl...she's just like Tanner, too big to crawl! He was exactly 10 mos when he crawled AND pulled himself up in the same day...I wonder if she will follow suit? This is her playing ball with Daddy...she just loves catching it.

Have a great weekend!

Monday Musings: Hooray for DST!

Did y'all enjoy the extra hour of sunshine last night, or what?  I surely did with a glass of wine out on the back deck.

Oh-em-gee, let me tell you how long I have been waiting for DST...OK, probably don't have to tell you, but it's pretty much been since it ended last November.

But anywho, Saturday was a pretty good day...I started off the day with barre class, then the boys and I took a trip to the library and spent some time playing outside. It was a pretty nice day, I was able to air out the house by opening all the windows - love when I get to do that.

Later that evening, we got to go to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Los Arcos, to celebrate Jake's mom's birthday...had been a while since I enjoyed a margarita {I call them Morga-ritas..tee hee}.

I started out Sunday morning trying my hand at my own little recipe for protein banana pancakes. They turned out delicious and I will be sharing the recipe with y'all here on Thursday. Guilt-free pancakes, anyone? I think so. The kids gobbled them right up, so I knew they were a hit. I have been more conscientious about eating clean lately...even with all the exercise I do, I know that abs are made in the kitchen and you can't out-exercise a bad diet. Your body's tone is about 85% dependent upon what you eat.

Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day...nice temps here in Charleston, SC...so we took advantage and went to the play park.

I know what you may be thinking, but no, Breckin does not suffer from Tourette's...he's just always being loud and goofy like that.

After the play park, we went home to recoup and then headed over to my friend, Suz's house to play with her kids, Max and Ava. I love spending time with her and her kids because our kids are so close in age and play well together, while also occupying each other, so Suz and I can catch up and have some adult conversation! {Usually I work full-time outside the home, but haven't for the last month and a half, so I definitely understand one's need to get out and be with adults!}

We then went home and Hubby served us tilapia with a side of steamed veggies and it was delish. A great way to end a weekend. Of course with above-mentioned wine on the back porch.

Hope y'all have a great week! I'm starting off today working the opening shift at the gym and then barre class straight after. I'm loving this new schedule of barre class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays...I definitely feel the burn in my core, buns and thighs! Bikini season, here I come!
