Monday Musings / Weekending: Memorial Day Weekend

It was a great weekend! The weather was beautiful and I got some great one-on-one time with my baby girl because Jake took the boys on a fishing trip with his dad all weekend. I missed them, but I can't lie, it was a nice break!

Friday night started with my neighborhood wine night...we chit-chatted, danced and as usual, had a great time.

Saturday I got Farrah and myself ready early to beat the crazy tourist beach traffic. It was a great day out, but it was a little windy, so we only hung out on the beach for about an hour and then spent the rest of the time talking to some of my friends at the Windjammer.

We hung out at Isle of Palms for a few hours and then we came home so she could nap and I could get some house cleaning done.

That evening we went to my friend Suz's house to hang out.

On Sunday, I won't lie, I had a lot of chores to do, so we didn't do as much as I thought we would. I wanted to go to the beach again, but the thought of battling the traffic just wasn't worth it. Farrah and I played, did chores and went to Target to stock up on some necessities. She developed an interesting way of sitting in the cart.

On Monday, the boys came back from their trip in the morning. I managed to get some much-needed gardening done quickly {putting some plants in our pots} and we all went to the pool that afternoon.

I just spent the evening prepping some healthy meals for the week - it is time to get back on that bandwagon...it was quite a "cheat" weekend.

Contain{er} Yourself

OK, I have to admit...I do not give my mother enough credit for her great eye for decorating and her remarkable green thumb. After spending the week in Idaho with her, I have so much inspiration. My main inspiration being her garden.  

Woman has mad skills, yo.

She does a lot of container gardening too {which I am most inspired to do since our soil here might as well be pure sand}...and told me one day she decided to count her pots and found out she had 85. {Obsess, much?}

But seriously, take a look at this beautiful garden. I'm envious {and also hoping the talent is genetic}.

I am going to start mainly with some containers...so I have full control over the soil quality...South Carolina soil is a bit tricky to work with. Here are some pictures of container gardens in outdoor spaces I also found inspiring...I love the eclectic look that can be achieved with a mix and match of decorative containers.

I can't wait to start on my garden...er, rather...get a little further than I have. I have made several attempts at gardening...I just need some better planning...and to devote more time to actually tending to the plants after I've planted them. With fall right around the corner, I'm hoping I can have some pretty fall blooms to begin with...I can't wait until the spring! {Mom may even come for a visit at that time and lend me a hand, er, thumb I mean.}

Happy Mother's Day

I hope all the mommies out there had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend! I had to work today for 13 hours, but I did have a great day yesterday...Breckin and I participated in a 5K called the Mom's Run for Postpartum Depression Awareness early in the morning. Our time was 36 minutes, but with a jogging stroller and having to stop to check on him a couple times, I didn't think it was too shabby. It was our first one this year, so I hope to aim to beat that time with each 5K I do this year. Here are some pics from the run:

Then, we met Tanner and Jake just down the street at Tanner's T-Ball game:

We then had a nice lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant where I had a well-deserved Morga-rita...and then we went home to work on the landscaping in the backyard - added a new flowerbed and fixed Dakotah's holes in the yard and planted some grass seed - hope to see it flourish!

Later (after even getting a nap!), we sat around the firepit in the backyard and cooked hotdogs and S'mores. Tanner and Jake camped out in a tent. It was a wonderful time with my family.

Anyway, that's my Mother's Day (observed) in a nutshell...waiting on my Mommy Ring to arrive...it's a large citrine gem (Tanner's birthstone) surrounded by a lot of Peridots (Breckin's birthstone) - exactly what I wanted this year!
