Thoughts on Thursday & Happy Birthday, Tanner

First and foremost, today is my oldest son's 9th birthday. That's right, our last year of the single digits...then I believe Tanner will technically be a "tween-ager" or something like that.{Really looking forward to that by the way!}

It's crazy how different Jake and I looked 9 years ago! Of course, I can't say I was at my best - I had just had a baby! But there is my sweet Tanner...so perfect and tiny...my life changed for the better that day, in so many ways I never knew it would. Being a mother has brought so much joy, new meaning and countless blessings to my life.

Happy Birthday, my sweet, handsome Tanner. I love you more than words could ever express, and I hope you know that in your heart forever. You make me proud to be your mother and I am so lucky you were brought into my life.

Now as for the rest of my Thoughts on Thursday...

I did my first 5K since before having Farrah on Saturday with my friend, Anne and her roommates. We had a great time...it was the coldest it had yet been this season at around 40 degrees and a bit rainy too, so we were running in the mud, and also, in the dark. But I am glad we did it.

She and I have already made plans to do the Reindeer Run together this year. It feels good to be back in the swing of things with getting some local races on the schedule. It's something I really love to do. Becoming a better runner is a goal of mine...along with that elusive half marathon I really need to check off my bucket list. I have been running in the mornings before Tanner goes to school and oh man, it has been cold...but the sunrises are a nice treat. I typically just do 2.5-3 miles right now....trying to just run 30 min and see what I can do in that time.

Farrah has been really wanting to sit up on her own...she does it a little, but not so well that I can walk away for a few seconds. But whenever I put her in something that leans back, she is always leaning forward to sit up.

I never really did share my pictures from Halloween here - so here are a few:

We had a great time trick-or-treating with the kids and then going to a neighborhood party.

Anyway, that's about it for today. Hope you caught Tuesday's and Wednesday's outfit posts! Having so much fun doing them!

Mother/Daughter Rainbow Brite Costumes

Truth be told, I've wanted to dress up as Rainbow Brite for Halloween for a loooooong time. What can I say? I love rainbows. This year, I had the perfect idea of having Farrah and me both be Rainbow Brite! I figured, I'd definitely get use out of the rainbow legwarmers on her, so why not?

Of course my first instinct was to search the internet for Rainbow Brite costumes and I found this for me...

and this for Farrah...

But between the prices and the costs for shipping, I was spending way more than I thought was worth my while. I know I could easily piece the basic items together myself and come up with something.

We will start with mine. I went on the search for a royal blue dress and ended up finding this at Forever 21 for $15.80. What I like about it is that it's not a "costume", it's totally a dress I could just have in my closet for wearing!

I then found the rainbow leg and arm warmers for just over $10 plus shipping on a site that sold them separately from the costume.

For $25 and some change, I had my outfit! I have a red belt that I will use and probably fashion a rainbow on it somehow to complete the look.

Now for Farrah, I looked for a basic royal blue onesie, and surprisingly was hard-pressed to find one. I then ran a search for "blue onesie with rainbow" hoping for a miracle, and I found even better than what I set out to find.

I mean, seriously???! It was $16.99, so a little more than I wanted to spend, but I got it larger because I plan on having her wear it tons.

And I found these baby leggings on Etsy for $5.50.

It was actually my bad because I then found that I did already have rainbow Baby Legs for her that I forgot about, but I will use them as her arm warmers if it happens to be cold on Halloween. But regardless, for just over $20, I had Farrah's costume. Not too shabby.

I already have this headband for her from an outfit I ordered for her when I was pregnant and I plan on having her wear it with the costume.

So I encourage you, whether it's Rainbow Brite you want to be, or something else, always look for ways to DIY your own costume or piece it together - you may just save a lot more money and end up getting more bang for your buck!

Happy Halloween!

Of course, I couldn't end this post without sharing a picture of Farrah and me all dressed up:
